We are the Peoria Newspaper Guild

Peoria Newspaper Guild

The Peoria Newspaper Guild represents editorial and outside circulation employees of the Journal Star. We negotiate wages, hours and working conditions for about 120 employees. We meet at 12:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of every month except July and December at Leonardo’s Pizza, 700 E War Memorial Drive, Peoria.

Local 86 of the American Newspaper Guild was chartered on May 31, 1957. In the 1970s, we saw our union’s name switch to The Newspaper Guild, reflecting its international representation. In 1995, our international union merged with the formidable Communication Workers of America.

We are now the Peoria Newspaper Guild Local 34086, Communication Workers of America, AFL-CIO. The number indicates our sector within CWA (3, which is The Newspaper Guild); the CWA District of which we’re part (District 4); and our local’s original charter number (86).
